Qualifications of the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager: 

The ideal candidate for the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager role will have a Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline. Preferably, a 4-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental science or Industrial Engineering. Additionally, the candidate will have 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in plant safety. The individual in this role should also have thorough knowledge or training of occupational health, safety and environmental compliance. Specific knowledge relating to applicable federal and state regulations and standards is necessary. Finally, the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager will be skilled with the standards, concepts, practices, and procedures within the health, safety and environmental field.

Overview of the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager: 

The Environmental, Health and Safety Manager has the primary responsibility for coaching, leading and influencing the operations management on EHS principles, practices and safety culture. In addition, this role will manage a small team of EHS staff, including their development and performance management. The Environmental, Health and Safety Manager is responsible for leading the site management in injury and illness prevention. Additionally, the EHS Manager leads conservation practices and compliance with local, federal and company EHS standards.

Responsibilities of the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager:

Furthermore, the Environmental, Health and Safety Manger provides EHS technical expertise on manufacturing systems, process design and operating procedures. In addition, they will establish operational goals to drive EHS improvements. This includes assessing the site, and making recommendations to control or eliminate EHS concerns. This role will also evaluate the operations, equipment and practices for EHS regulatory compliance. They will also guide EHS team members to focus on long-term sustainable EHS improvements. Importantly, the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager will conduct and coordinate EHS training to include training for workplace concerns based on assessment of site operations and incident trends. Finally, the Environmental, Health and Safety Manger communicates EHS information and provide expertise. Specifically, the EHS Manger will be a key resource to operations, government representatives and the general public on issues concerning health, environmental performance or workplace safety.
